Zoning Board of Appeals Approves Homeowner's Sideyard Variance
Portos will build garage on Oakwood Drive
In a brief Zoning Board of Appeals meeting last night at the Rec Center, the board approved a request for a sideyard variance that will allow a homeowner to build a garage on the side of his house.
Pasquale Porto, owner of a house at 15 Oakwood Drive presented his plan to build a one car garage on the side of his house.
Members of the board inquired whether the garage would be one story and Porto said it will be. When asked about the roof line, he said it would match the roof of the house.

Board chairman Robert Hannon asked Land Use Administrator Alan Frederickson whether a Planning & Zoning site plan application would have to be filed and Frederickson said no, because residential single family units are exempt from Planning & Zoning regulations.
Vice Chairman Caren Genovese stated the sideyard variance was a reasonable request and there were no complaints from neighbors. A neighbor at the hearing confirmed he had no opposition to the building of the garage.

Hannon had said four votes would be needed from the five member board to approve the variance and when the vote was taken the decision was unanimous. It was approved with a restriction that the garage be kept to one story.
