Finding Financial Resources and Navigating the System

Finding Financial Resources and Navigating the System

The Connecticut Chapter will host a two-part self-advocacy program in Norwalk.

Self-advocacy refers to your ability to effectively communicate an interest, desire, need or right and to negotiate to resolve it. It also means making informed decision and taking responsibility for them. Effective self-advocates understand individual strengths, identify personal goals, and recognize legal rights and responsibilities.

PART ONE of the series will provide participants with a basic understanding of important practical techniques, tools and templates that will help them become effective self-advocates. Workshop facilitators will provide a general overview of employment and vocational programs, Social Security benefits, Medicare/Medicaid and local financial assistance programs that help with energy assistance, home modifications and medical equipment.

PART TWO will offer participants an opportunity to share their self-advocacy experiences and discuss how to utilize materials and pointers from the first workshop. Participants can also work one-on-one with program facilitators to address individual situations and concerns.
