First Day of School Pushed Back

Irene damage and power outages push first day of school back to September 6.

What with power outages, downed trees, and damage caused by last weekend's Tropical Storm Irene, it's hard to find a silver lining in one of the top ten costliest natural disasters in the nation's history.

Still, for kids not quite ready to go back to school, the storm may have brought with it a small bit of good news: North Haven public schools will not resume until September 6, the day after Labor Day.

The start of adult education classes and Ridge Road Elementary School's open house will also take place on September 6.
