Gone But Not Forgotten: Memorial Bench for Young Victim of Heart Defect

The first-grader lives on in school's memory.

Matthew “Matty” Jacques was only in the first grade when he passed away following complications from a heart transplant, wtnh.com reports.

Now his school Montowese Elementary School is determined that he won’t be forgotten by dedicating a playground bench to his memory.

“We’re trying our best to try and carry on Matthew’s name and legacy and everything that he tried to do. He was always there to help someone else with such a bright spirit and we want to continue that,” Melissa Jacques, Matthew’s mother, told wtnh.com.

Montowese Elementary School had previously helped raise money to cover medical costs, and now Matty’s family is raising money to help other families in need, too, according to wtnh.com.
