High School Intern Promoted to Assistant Principal

Christopher McLaughlin will assume the duties of Assistant Principal at NHHS.

Christopher McLaughlin, an administrative intern at North Haven High School for a number of years, will be promoted to the position of Assistant Principal.

The Board of Education voted to expand McLaughlin's responsibilities at last Thursday's meeting, otherwise dominated by a discussion about special education staffing and potential layoffs in the district.

Funding for McLaughlin's position was made available through a state grant set aside for the creation of new jobs within schools, Superintendent Dr. Robert Cronin explained.

Money for the Assistant Principal role is included in this year's school budget, and will also allow for the hiring of two elementary school math coaches.

McLaughlin is currently responsible for overseeing students whose last names begin with the letters A through F, according to the NHHS website.

The intern position functions as a professional development program for former teachers looking to build administrative credentials.

McLaughlin was employed as an English teacher at NHHS before assuming his current role.

What are your thoughts on McLaughlin's promotion? Does the High School need more administrators?
