Soccer Club Scholarship Deadline Approaching

Students are eligible for up to $500 for college expenses.

The North Haven Soccer Club is accepting submissions for their 2012 scholarship until May 25.

Two scholarships worth $500 each are available to graduating high school seniors who have participated in the North Haven Soccer Club for at least five years as a coach, player, referee or volunteer.

"It was a good way to give back and reward some of the players and members that have given so much of their time and effort through the years," said club treasurer Kathleen Carboni. "Many of those kids go on to be coaches. It was a way to say 'we appreciate what you do' and we'd like to honor what they've given to the club."

The scholarship is available to both private and public school students in North Haven who are either current or former members of the North Haven Soccer Club. Submissions must be postmarked no later than May 25, 2012.

Students must achieve at least a B average upon graduation and a two hundred minimum word essay on "What soccer has meant to me..." is to be included with all applications.

For those concerned about the competition, Carboni says that over the years she has seen anywhere between four and eight students apply every year.
