Superintendent to Address Special Education Staffing Controversy Tonight

Public meeting scheduled for 6:00 p.m. in the NHHS gymnasium.

A special Board of Education meeting will be held tonight in the NHHS gymnasium to provide information and answer questions about a proposal that could see the number of special ed teachers in North Haven's public schools cut from 35 to 26.

The meeting was scheduled last week after news of the suggested reassignments prompted widespread outcry from parents.

According to First Selectman Michael Freda, the high school gym was selected as a forum in order to accommodate what is expected to be a sizable turnout.

The format of tonight's meeting has not been posted, although Cronin has been asked by the town's elected officials to explain his rationale behind the staff cuts, as well as discuss the BOE's appointment of Dana Corriveau as Director of Student Services.

Corriveau co-authored a State Department of Education Focused Monitoring Report on North Haven's special education program in April.
