North Haven Football Tops East Haven to Remain Undefeated

The Indians took a 54-28 win over cross-town rival East Haven on Sept. 27.


Three games into the 2013 season, the North Haven football team is still perfect after topping East Haven 54-28 on Sept. 27. The Indians started scoring early with two TDs in the first quarter with Mike Montano running in both from eight and three yards out, respectively.

The Indians piled on four more scores in the second for a 41-0 halftime lead. Mike Halloran punched in a QB keeper from five yards out before Ethan Suraci ran one in from the five-yard line. Halloran then connected with Zac Kastenhuber for a 19-yard pass and Cole Pecora rushed three yards for the fourth score of the quarter.

Sabrina Front was 5-for-6 on point-after attempts in the first half.

Each team scored in the third quarter before the Yellowjackets came back with three touchdowns to the Indians' one in the final frame. Thomas Gallagher scored for North Haven on a six-yard run. David Mikos scored on a nine-yard run in the fourth quarter with Brendan Eckels' PAT good on both second-half scores.

Halloran was 3-for-5 passing for 84 yards to go with 59 rushing yards. Nicholas Ponzio led the Indians in rushing with 84 yards, Gallagher had 51 and Hunter Coughlin had 41.

Suraci led the defense with 11 tackles with Patrick Mikos adding 10 and Kastenhuber tallying eight. Evan Manemeit, Austin Mahon and Michael Milliard each had six tackles, while Fred Sanchez, , Nick Andreucci, Gallagher, Benjamin Pethick and Christopher Brockett each had five.

North Haven looks to keep its record unblemished as it travels to Madison to take on Hand, which is 2-1 in 2013, on Friday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m.
