North Haven's Ramsey Kong Earns Medalist Honors With 67 In State Championship

The North Haven High School student played the game of his life to shoot the best score at the CIAC Division II Golf Championship.

North Haven High School sophomore Ramsey Kong saved his best for when it mattered most.

On Monday, the 15-year-old shot a five-under 67 - his best score ever - at the CIAC Division II Championship at Hebron's Tallwood Country Club, the lowest score for the tournament, according to the Post-Chronicle. The next closest score was a 70 by Eddie Hill of Watertown High School, according to the Post-Chronicle.

"I did (think this round was possible),” said Kong, whose previous career best round was a 69, according to the Post-Chronicle. “All you have to do is put the ball in play, hit good shots, putt good, that’s it. And you can shoot a low score.”

Despite Kong's effort, North Haven finished just 16th overall in the tournament, according to the Post-Chronicle. Still, Kong's six-birdie performance impressed North Haven Coach Steve Feuring.

“He has one of the best short games I have ever seen and he hits the ball dead straight most of the time,” North Haven coach Steve Feuring told the Post-Chronicle.
