North Haven Community Service Awards Dinner Scheduled

Awards will be given Saturday, February 26 at the Hamden Elks Lodge.

The 2010 North Haven Community Service Awards will be held Saturday, February 26 at 6:00 p.m. at the Hamden Elks Lodge. The night will include dinner, a cash bar, and the awards ceremony. 

Awards are given in four categories, Police Officer of the Year, Firefighter of the Year, Volunteer Firefighter of the Year, and Citizen of the Year.

The 2010 winners are Officer Theodore Stockmon, a lifelong North Haven Resident and senior patrol officer with the NHPD, for Police Officer of the Year; Paul Januszewski, a firefighter paramedic currently assigned to the New Haven Special Hazards Team and actively involved in community outreach and fundraising, for Firefighter of the Year; and Angel Sanjurjo, a certified firefighter extensively involved with local food and toy drives, for Volunteer Firefighter of the Year.

Luigi Nuzzolillo, owner and operator of Forget Me Not Flower Shop, current Vice Chairman of the Convention Committee for the Connecticut Florist Association Board of Directors, Rotary Club member since 1989, 2006 Rotarian of the Year and recipient of three Paul Harris Awards, Board Member of the Domestic Violence Services of Greater New Haven, and member of the North Haven Sons and Daughters of Italy and the Boys and Girls Club of New Haven, has been chosen North Haven Citizen of the Year. 

The public is welcome to the event, and can purchase tickets for $20 a head at the Elks Lodge weekdays after 4 p.m., and weekends after noon. Reservations can also be made by phone during those hours by calling Lodge President Tim Mayer at 203-500-9246 or the Lodge at 203-248-2224.
