Rotary’s Day of Wine & Roses Event Features Major Food Festival on Sunday

Are you ready for the Rotary Club of North Haven's Day of Wine & Roses?

After months of preparation, the event chairman for the North Haven Rotary Club’s biggest annual fundraiser for charity addressed the club this week with a final update for the huge undertaking planned for this Sunday, September 29 from 1 to 5 p.m., rain or shine.

President Elect Nick D’Ambrosia whose goal as chairman was to double the proceeds this year from the 12th annual Day of Wine & Roses, reported that the support from the business community has been overwhelming.

“I am so grateful to so many people,” he said, adding, “Besides the many wine makers from the area, and the annual pig roast by Have Grill, Will Travel, we have four dozen restaurants participating with thousands of dollars of food being donated, including two trucks providing free baked potatoes and brick oven pizza. The trucks will be located on the All Star Automotive property on State Street in North Haven nestled beside Forget-Me-Not Flowers, allowing a major expansion of the venue this year.”

He added that several very large tents, as well as numerous tables and chairs have been donated by the owners of the club’s home base for meetings, the Breakfast Nook Restaurant, and their affiliate, Quality Tents, LLC. Donated items for the raffles and silent auction have also been doubled.

Even the live entertainment has been expanded to include something for everyone. Voting for your favorite wines in the competition, which includes over 50 wine makers, has been simplified. Besides a free raffle ticket for a valuable door prize, holders of the $35 ticket will receive 25 tokens to use as votes in the wine tasting contest.

As in the past, several businesses on State Street will provide parking space, and a shuttle service will be available thanks to volunteers.

Tickets are available from any club member or from Nick D’Ambrosia at 203-668-7811 or nickd@nanddsports.com. See the NHRC website for further details.
