Two men were arrested on several charges on May 8. Michael Ardito, 28, of Eaton Street in North Haven, and Lyle Widdows, 31, of New Britain, were charged with third-degree criminal trespass, sixth-degree larceny and fourth-degree criminal mischief. Widdows was also charged with illegal possession of marijuana. Both were released on a promise to appear in court on May 17. A North Haven woman was charged with second-degree sexual assault and causing risk of injury/impairing morals of a minor. Bail for Nikkie Lemere, 20, of Quinnipiac Avenue, was set at $10,000 and she was scheduled to appear in court on May 17. A Milford man was arrested for sixth-degree larceny on May 8. Five Naugatuck teens were arrested on trespassing charges after police said they were caught on the roof of Naugatuck High School, attempting to do free running, also known as "parkour." -- A Hamden man was arrested for firing a gun to scare two children who were on his property looking for a stick to fix a broken bicycle. -- A man in Milford was arrested for stealing a $130 pair of boots from Sears at the Westfield Connecticut Post Mall. -- A Milford man was arrested in North Haven for allegedly drinking and driving. A Milford man was arrested twice in one week by the North Haven Police Department for different charges. The first arrest for Eric William Gongalves, 22, was on May 6 for allegedly driving under the influence and possession of drug paraphernalia. Two days later, he was arrested for sixth-degree larceny. Bail was set at $500 for the driving charge and he’s scheduled to appear in court on May 17. The initial shockwave that swept through Connecticut last week after the Ramsey family tragedy in Wilton changed to disgust following the decision of area news outlets to publish the graphic 911 recording, during which Mrs. Ramsey told the dispatcher that her husband was lying dead “in a pool of blood.” Patch received access to the tape but did not publish a link to it. As a American writer who considers the First Amendment our most cherished right, I believe that making 911 tapes available to the public is essential to community safety; however, are we not also human beings? Fire Department and Senior Center officials hope to save lives.
The North Haven Fire Department and Senior Center are teaming up to increase awareness about the Vial of Life campaign. Vial of Life is an ongoing campaign in North Haven that was introduced four years ago as a means to help emergency responders provide faster, better and more efficient care to senior citizens. The campaign encourages the use of a literal vial in the shape of a large pill bottle in which the individual keeps a record of vital information for first responders, such as current medication, ailments and illnesses, preferred hospital should hospitalization be required, dependents/caregivers, and any other important information. “This lets our elderly residents know that we do care about them and we are looking to better treat…

Nearly half a million more dollars are going to the captains and lieutenants in the Connecticut State Police department this fiscal year.
Higher-ups in the State Police Department are slated to get pay raises of up to 56 percent. According to the Associated Press, the deal passed automatically because the state legislature chose not to vote on the contract within 30 days of its filing. It will be their first raise since 2008. In 2011, 56 state troopers were laid off in order to reduce costs. All were officers who recently graduated from the academy. The raises will reportedly set the state back $458,000 in the current fiscal year.

Mutual aid departments helped the North Branford Fire Department put out an electrical fire on Sunday.
While the North Branford Fire Department was battling the housefire on Beech Street on Sunday morning, another call came in for an electrical fire on Judson Drive. The East Haven and North Haven fire departments responded to the mutual aid call along with one of the North Branford units and Branford and Wallingford fire departments then covered North Branford’s stations. “It was a busy morning,” said North Branford Fire Chief William Seward. He reported that the electrical fire ignited when the homeowner’s father cut a limb from a tree that pulled the electrical service feed from the house. The wire caused a fire on the outside of the home. “The fire caused by ripping the wire from the side of the house was not the only hazard,” said …
