Hoping the worst of winter is behind them, the Peter's Rock Association make plans for a busy and production season ahead
Monday’s Peter’s Rock Association meeting was almost celebratory. Many of the members had not seen one another since the new year had begun, and greeted one another warmly as they filed into the room. Peter’s Rock Association President Christopher Fletcher said the bad weather this winter, especially heavy snowfall, was the culprit behind cancellations of the group’s meetings, updates, work days and hikes. Member Theresa Zullo Marino pointed out that there were still enormous mounds of snow piled up at the main entrance to Peter’s Rock, so even though the lot itself looked clear, you still couldn’t get in. Fletcher said he hoped there wouldn’t be any more snow, especially by the time of the next work day event. Members wholeheartedly …

North Haven Trail Association group enters the new year with optimism, enthusiasm, and a sense of purpose.
The North Haven Trail Association (NHTA) held their first meeting of the year last night at North Haven’s Linsley Street Recreation Center. Speaking to a packed house, NHTA President Ron Penton was enthusiastic about the turnout, which included the full board, numerous members, and a few new faces as well. “It’s nice to see such a good group here,” Penton said. North Haven residents Tim Crosby, his daughter, and David Roby were a few of the new attendees at the meeting. Both men are avid outdoorsmen. Crosby hikes and has canoed the Quinnipiac for years, teaching his children the same. Both Roby and Crosby expressed their appreciation for the area’s natural beauty, and Crosby said of the NHTA’s trail along the river, “It’s a beautiful place…

Photo Essay: North Haven Trail Association Members tour Phase III.
It was brisk on Saturday. Really brisk. Although it was a bright sunny day, morning air tempertures were just above freezing, and a slight breeze made it feel even chillier. Nevertheless, that's when members of the North Haven Trails Association (NHTA) got together for a hike. NHTA members were out in the woods, bundled up from head-to-toe, in order to tour the parcels of land that make up Phase III in the NHTA's proposed plans for a North Haven Linear Trail. Some members had not yet seen the property; others used the occasion to monitor conditions in the area, while others brought garbage bags and cleaned debris along the way. All members took time to enjoy the natural beauty of the Quinnipiac River and the land . According to the …

After a filling Thanksgiving meal, what better way to work off the calories than with a beautiful walk outdoors?
Yep. You said you weren't going to let it happen. But here we go again. First there was the 20 pound turkey with all the trimmings. You had to have second helpings of just about everything on the table—not to mention Aunt Dottie's insanely delicious apple pie, and your mom's famous pumpkin pie with whipped cream. Of course you're stuffed. After letting the belt out a notch or two, don't be too quick to fall into your dad's Lazy-Boy and turn comatose. Instead, walk it off. There's plenty of places to stretch your legs around town, whether you go for a simple stroll or go all-out and hike. Need one more incentive? Consider the thousands of calories in your Thanksgiving dinner—even without dessert! Better start walking! One of the most …
