A Grand Day for Grand Reopening of Culver-Brockett Museum
Saturday's Grand Reopening of the Martha Culver Building took years of hard work, but was made sweeter with sunny skies, as well as new donations to see, including the Brockett family collection.
It took some doing, but after four years the Culver-Brockett Museum welcomed guests once again with its grand reopening Saturday.
Susan Iverson, correspondence secretary for the North Haven Historical Society, explained that work on the building could only be initiated after experts, such structural engineers and architects, completed studies of the building. Those studies were made possible, Iverson said, thanks to the grants received from the CT Trust for Historic Preservation.
Structural work was done to the building, along with roofing repairs, which allowed them to open the doors again. However, there’s more to do, including cosmetics and electrical work. “The process,” according to Iverson, “was and continues to be step-by-step. It’s long-term.”
